The darker nights draw in and we think about hunkering down for the cold winter months. Garden furniture packed away and summer BBQ parties become a distant memory.
However a growing trend of cooking outside all year is emerging across the UK. With the addition of some overhead protection from the elements, a little lighting and some warm clothes, there's just as much fun to be had, cooking outdoors in the colder months.
Cooking outside in winter can be more relaxing with the crisp clear air and the solitude of a dark winter evening. The fire/coals give off a slightly brighter glow, and the smell of the food seems to drift that little bit further.
Add some Christmas lights and a bit of festive music and you have the makings of a magical few hours of escape.
Keeping the dishes simple and full of flavour, will keep you engaged in the process. Greek or Tikka kebabs with homemade pittas are always a winner. Or how about German Bratwurst, or Smash burgers. Easy to prepare & fun to make.
For a full hearty winter meal, the use of a cast iron pot or Dutch oven can transform the humble stew into a rich smokey broth, or how about something with a little more spice, such as a chilly or curry.
The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.
So what are you waiting for? Get out there.
